Located in Mandarin Orchard HotelTriple Tree is a Japanese- inspired international buffet that boasts a large range of delicacies ranging from fresh seafood to a magnificent teppanyaki.

As you enter Triple Tree you are greeted with their intriguing partitions designed and spacious seating arrangements. As I went for their dinner buffet the mood lighting was exquisite, as it bounced off their partition creating an aesthetic appeal that is quite unmatched amongst all the restaurants I've been to.

Triple Tree is a high-end buffet and the cost is definitely on the high side with the price tag of SGD 108++ per person for the weekend Dinner buffet which is definitely a turn off for most patrons.

We almost missed the restaurant, until we looked into the partition, the restaurant signage was not really prominent.

As we went in we were greeted by the crew and of course the delicious food. The items were decked out and displayed, most cooked food were only cooked when they were running low, but don't get me wrong it was replenished fast. As for the teppanyaki station, if the chef saw someone waiting for food he would instantly cook on the spot and you would probably wait a couple of minutes tops.

The Sashimi and Sushi Station
Rating : ★

The Sashimi and Sushi station is always the first place I would go to for my starters, I always am not able to resist the taste of fresh sashimi, if they are available. The Sashimi is freshly sliced by the chef on the spot, they have a few choices of Rock Fish, Prawn, Tuna and of course Salmon. I'm always a big Salmon fan so I just asked for Salmon and Tuna Sashimi, however the Rock Fish was really great and gave me a fruity after taste. The Sashimi slices basically melt in your mouth and with the large variety of condiments, one can definitely be spoilt for choice.

The sushi was disappointing, there was only 5 kinds of sushi to choose from which is kind of pathethic for a Japanese oriented international buffet.

The chefs took quite an attention to detail to neatly place the sashimi on the customers plate which was quite commendable.

The Oyster Bar
Rating : ★★★☆

Oysters were pried open infront of you and the chef was fast in doing so, I've been to Pasarbella for Oysters, which was supposed to be their specialty but the staff opening the Oysters took quite a while to open them, but the chef at Triple Three opened it effortlessly. Although there was only a single range of Oyster available.

Seafood on Ice
Rating : ★★★☆

Well, the variety is all what you see above, these are the spread of food available for the seafood on ice. I was excited to try out their crabs and was impressed that they cracked open the shells so the customers did not have to dirty their hands eating them.

However, the downside to it was that the juices leaked out of the flesh making it's flesh really dry. As compared to the King Crab Feast that momiji japanese buffet provides, it was a little of a let down, momiji's king crab was succulent and you can taste the tender and moist flesh of the crab, the only downside was that you have to crack the shell yourself.

Well, ease of eating over taste? You decide.

Kagoshima Wagyu Beef
Rating : ★★★★★

The wagyu beef here, well lack of a better word stunning, roasted to a medium rare perfection, this is probably my favourite in Triple Tree. The meat is succulent and tender which will practically melt in your mouth. However, the downside to it is that the meat contain a large amount of fat, but hey what good food doesn't? This is definitely a must try for here.

The Wagyu beef is accompanied by several sauces, the most prominent is the black truffle sauce, but for those who have a sweet tooth can go for the pineapple sauce instead. The wagyu station also provides honey baked ham, however I'm not a ham lover I decided to give it a skip. Do try and let us know how it goes.

The Sukiyaki Station
Rating : ★★★☆

Well, personally I find it very common and nothing fantastic to talk about. There are better places that serve Sukiyaki.

Teppanyaki Station
Rating : ★★★★☆

The teppanyaki here is good but not great, but why 4 1/2 stars? Well simply put......

The buttery filled goodness are probably what keeps the Teppanyaki side of the restaurant going. It's filled with their signature butter cream and baked to perfection. These stuff were baked in batches and brought out in trays and it took only a matter of seconds and I MEAN seconds to get snatched up. I appears as though everyone was waiting for this particular dish, and trust me you would want to try it although I would not recommend taking too much since you might get sick of the butter.

The Dessert Table
Rating : ★★★☆

I am not a guy with a sweet tooth but, giving this a 3 1/2 stars might mean something. The desert was quite a spread albeit nothing much out of the ordinary. There really isn't something that I would reccomend ,since much of the dessert are pretty much mediocre.

Rainbow Cake

It was interesting to see a Rainbow Cake, but dissapointing to eat since it tastes like artificially sweetened candy.

Chocolate Fondue and Mousse
Rating : ★★

If you love chocolate you should give their Chocolate spread a try, located at the entrance of Triple Three, it is included in the buffet. As I have said I do not have a sweet tooth, therefore I would not give them a high rating.

-------------------------

Ultimately, Triple Three provides a large variety of food for your tummy. However, the buffet is what you may see in many international buffet, there is nothing that shouts that it's unique and with a price tag of  more than SGD 100 for it's dinner buffet, it would burn a huge hole in your pocket.

If you have cash to spare or a 1 for 1 deal from groupon or credit cards deals, do give it a try.

Side Note : The restaurant holds deals such as 1 for 1, quite often on groupon or deal.sg, keep an eye out for it.

BATAM TRIP PROLOGUE

I am sure there are a large amount of blog reviews regarding trips to Batam, Indonesia.
So after reading up on all the blogs and what to do over in Batam, I decided to go over with my partner to see how fun it really was.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with bulk order and purchase websites such as Groupon or deal.sg, they offer a
large array of Batam trips, most of which are 2D1N, and honestly it's quite a good deal. We got ourselves a $55 dollar deal for a 2D1N trip in Batam inclusive of a two-way ferry ride with a hotel stay and city tour.

extracted from www.groupon.sg
After purchasing the vouchers we had to make our reservation with a travel agency called 'aircebu' located at Lucky Plaza, Orchad Road. Personally it was quite an upsetting procedure, firstly when I called to check on how should I email them for the reservation (Voucher said Book by Email), I was greeted by an extremely rude Philipino/Indonesian operator which was not helpful and told us to go down an book, if not they are not going to care about it(She had a MAJOR Attitude Problem), after much debating, her colleague came to rectify the situation and clarified that they made a mistake and booking through an email will do just fine.

After mailing them our booking details, we received our Tour Voucher the next day, you have to print our the Tour Voucher for verification when collecting your Ferry Tickets, checking attendance with your Tour Guide and checking into your Hotel.

So off we went to collect our ferry tickets at Harbourfront Ferry Terminal level 3, you can collect the ferry tickets in advance which is highly recommended so as to not join in the long queue for collection on the day of the trip itself.

We presented our Tour Voucher along with our passports and the SGD 20 departure tax per person, after which they provided us with our Tickets and Tour Stickers.

We received a Best Batam Tour Sticker which is supposedly one of the largest tour agency in Batam, on our trip we saw countless hordes of Best Batam coach and minibuses. You have to fill in the White Card with the address you are staying and so for us we filled in "Jalan Engku Putri No 1", as there wasn't enough space to write the full address.

As for the Ferry Tickets it's a 2 way travel ticket so do not lose it after you reach Batam, you will have to hand the White Card and Ferry Ticket to the Tour Guide so that they can arrange your Ferry back to Singapore. You are also required to pass the SGD 8 departure tax to your tour guide.

Stay tuned for my update on Day 1 of my Batam Trip.

Side Note : Honestly, that SGD 20 dollars departure tax is sort of the "ferry ticket price", I'm saying so since I saw several promotion stating that ferry rides to Batam are at SGD 0 excluding departure tax.
